Located at just about 40 kms away from Kullu, Manikaran is a popular sightseeing option for the tourists visiting Manali and Kullu, however Manikaran is also a beautiful holiday destination in its own right. Bhuntar is the nearest airport from Manikaran.
Being located close to major tourist destinations like Manali and Kullu, there is no dearth of options to commute to Manikaran, however there are very few direct buses to Manikaran. All buses going to Manali pass through Kullu and frequent buses are available from Kullu to Manikaran. It will take about an hour to reach Manikaran from Kullu.
Manikaran by Road
Traveling by road is the cheapest option to reach Manikaran. A taxi can save considerable amount of time as buses are very slow especially on the hilly roads.
Manikaran by Train
If you 'have' to travel by train Joginder Nagar (narrow gauge) is the nearest rail head which is connected to Pathankot, a broad gauge railway station. Kangra valley Railway runs daily passender trains between Pathankot and Joginder nagar however it takes approximately 7 hours to cover the distance of 150 kms. If you do not count the Joginder Nagar railway station the nearest rail head from manikaran is Chandigarh which is approximately 300 kms away from Manikaran.
Kasol near Manikaran
Kasol is just 5 kilometers from Manikaran and are very different neighbours. Located by the beautiful Parvati river Kasol is Kasol is totally different from Manikaran. While Manikaran is a pilgrim center Kasol is a backpackers paradise.
